Press Release: Henrike Hahn MEP (The Greens/ EFA): New EU Own Resources are urgently needed

The European Parliament today adopted the report on new EU own resources with 356 votes in favour (199 against and 65 abstentions). Henrike Hahn, Member of the European Parliament (The Greens/EFA), substitute member of the Committee on Budgets, standing shadow rapporteur on EU agencies and shadow rapporteur for the Greens/EFA for the annual budget 2022, comments:

“The EU budget urgently needs new own resources - not only to pay back the common debt from the RRF, but also to fulfil the many priorities that we have set ourselves in the different programs and EU agencies.

EU agencies, such as the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, manage highly complex and important IT systems and are now suffering particularly badly from inflation due to increased energy costs. In order to ensure that the goals we have set ourselves at European level for the EU budget are not jeopardized by the many crises we are facing at the moment, the Commission must act now and come forward with an ambitious proposal both on new own resources and on the revision of the multiannual financial framework."

I would be happy to answer any further questions.
